So it begins!

So many of you who know me know that I have a skin condition called Psoriasis. Dermatologist have explained it as my immune system is over active and causes my skin to grow faster than the average person. Faster as in my skin grows in three days when it should take 27. This is why traditional Drs have always tackled this problem topically with creams and photolithography (aka glorified tanning) These have definitely work for me and have been my treatment on and off for the past 20 years. However recently I have been playing with the idea of attempting to cure myself holistically. After conversing with my two close friends (one is a nutritionist one is an RN) I decided to take the plunge!! I'm not prepared and I'm still researching a lot but I decided to just start! Which is so unlike me since I like to have all my ducks in a row and know what works before I dive in. The more I read the more I'm learning that's not possible when trying to cure something holistically. It's a little bit of a trial and error game and there are so many variables. According to the naturalists out there psoriasis is believed to be an allergy to certain foods or even preservatives. (So I stopped calling it an allergy and rather a food sensitivity. I'll explain more on another post)

I'll be honest. I'm a little nervous letting people into this part of my life. Not because I'm ashamed or I don't like talking about it but more because, well it's hard to explain. It's kind of like inviting a stranger into your living room. Aaaawkward!

So, here goes!
A little back history:
First signs of Psoriasis began when I was 3. I think this is uncommon but honestly i don't know much because I have never really reached out to others who suffer. I'm not sure why with the vast growing information and communication with internet. I guess after trying everything under the sun from childhood into my 20's I had just excepted that there is nothing that will completely take it away, just keep it under control. My go to is a steroid spray (gasp!) and phototherapy.

After doing a small amount of research I came across the Pagano diet by Dr John Pagano and ordered his book  "Healing Psoriasis". I started the diet before getting the book by collecting as much info from others who share about the book. One blog in particular that was encouraging to me was healingmichele.blogspot.com. I have book now but I am still in the process of reading it.

So here is what I'm cutting out:
Red meat
All products with sugar
Seafood/raw fish (don't have this often anyway)
White rice and potatoes
Strawberries and citrus frui

Alcohol
Tomatoes (on the inter web I hear this one is a big no no!)
White flour and yeast
Also to avoid preservatives as much as possible

These are all derived from the Pagano diet. I have also added eggs and dairy because I have read these could also be a possible trigger and at this point I want to try everything!

So I started off slow... like four ingredients slow. (well I did buy other fruits and veggies but these were the items that were not apart of my usual diet) I mostly just bought a few items to help me get started. I don't normally eat a ton of bread or noodles but I bought these because I am cutting out so many other "fill me up" kinda foods like potatoes aaand potatoes. After bringing it home I read that you were supposed to stay away from cane sugar which is in the multi grain ciabatta's but it's way down on the ingredients list so I'm not too worried. Again I'm just learning as I go and not stressing about getting it all right the first go around!

I will post more info later, as this little diddy is getting a bit long. I want this blog to be educational but I don't want to bore you so if you have questions pleeeease feel free to leave a comment. I will also post some pictures as I progress through the diet so you can see for yourself if it's working. I also welcome your insight if you have any to offer. However I will worn you, if you post more than 50 words you just might loose my interest so please keep it simple friends!. I am reading so much about proper PH balance in the body, cutting out toxins, food pairing and juicing that it enough to make your head spin. I'm not ready to go all organic and GMO free just yet. One thing at a time 😁
