Elimination Diet and Kiefer (14-19 weeks)

Image
Things have been slow going in the healing department. I switched up a few things again and it reminded me that adding or taking away too many things all at once gets to be a bit chaotic and then it’s hard to know if you’re reacting or not and what’s the cause? After our trip to Ohio and using the coconut milk brand that possibly contains soy I did better investigation of the food I was currently eating and realized I still had some possible traces of soy in my diet . I found an online source for shredded coconut that would contain absolutely no soy and replace that with the brand I have been using. I also came across a girl on  inspired.com  who revealed that she had an intolerance to all olive oil. Since I was using olive oil heavily in my diet I decided to cut it out for short time to see what happens. I believe that these were two steps in the right direction however I also add an item to my diet which I believe was a mistake. I started making homemade Kiefer since I had r...

Hello again! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! I know we did. But now it’s back to the  hustle and bustle of regular life.....  except it’s not regular life, it’s tax season!!! So in the midst of balancing book work, sick kids, and  unexpected snow days I’ll pause for a moment to give a quick update. I know, I know I still haven’t put on my before and after pictures. If only blogspot wasn’t such a pain right now.... 🙄 Not sure why but I’m having such a hard time  uploading photos using my phone or iPad. And you know, going downstairs to the computer is so. much. work. Ok so my skin started to look even better while we were in Ohio but as soon as we got home something didn’t seem right again. I stopped putting cinnamon on my sweet potatoes just over a week ago to see if that helps. Also I was about to open a Container of coconut milk that I bought in Ohio and it dawned on me that I should read the label since it was a different brand that I normally us...

Elimination Diet

Wow! So due to this Christmas season being craaaazy, I didn’t get to posting my 12 and 14 week comparison photos.... yet. Aaaand I’m not going to upload them tonight. But I will briefly say things are going very well. The holidays were a bit hard with all the yummy goodness all around and even though I did cheat (often) but my skin is still getting better. Maybe not as cleared up as it could have been but honestly, cutting loose a little was well worth it!! One thing I did learn from my rebellious getaway was that food definitely triggers my Psoriasis, I have no doubts now. Only problem is my food intake wasn’t isolated enough to know for sure what I am sensitive to. So in this new year I am going to buckle down and get serious about this elimination diet!!  Which brings me to why I came on here in the first place, to explain the “elimination diet”. A n  elimination diet  is a short-term eating plan that eliminates certain foods that may be causing allergies and other ...

I had to share this video after seeing it on Facebook! This is totally is how I feel like I sound to everyone around me. It gets worse when I meet someone else who has explored the connection between food illnesses or just the overall benefit of eating clean. It’s official, I’ve become one of “those” people.  I’m excited to show my skin is making great progress ever since I cut out the Stash lemon ginger herbal tea I was mixing with the slippery elm and the V8 juice I was drinking to get more veggies in my diet. The only common denominator between the two is citric acid. So I will have to do further testing once my skin is more clear. I'm excited though because I can already tell my skin gets tingly any time I eat something questionable, and by questionable I mean something made by someone else that I don't full controls over what's in it. It's hard to decipher if a food contains things like gluten, soy, and citric acid without sounding like our friend Luke up ...

8 weeks comparison

After 4 weeks of feeling like my skin was ready to crack open and seeing no progress, it seems like my skin is finally calming down. I’m seeing some clearing on my arms but the rest of my body looks the same but feels so much better. During those four or so weeks I couldn’t servive without having ebsom baths every two days and lathering up on cream. I did go back to simplifying my diet. Every time I add something and think it’s safe when I really don’t actually know, my skin either reacts or the healing progress is slow at best. Like the tea I was adding to my slippery elm bark powder. I know it’s gluten free but it does have citric acid. So did the V8 juice I was drinking in order to get more veggies in my system. I don’t know if that was causing a flair up but I did read of one psoriasis sufferer who said they were sensitive to vitamin C. Further research lead me to this article you might find interesting. http://www.healwithfood.org/psoriasis/can-citrus-fruits-trigger-eczema-pso...

Slippery Elm Bark Tea & American Yellow Saffron Tea (also 4 & 6 week comparison)

Hi all! I know. I’m off to a reeealy slow start but when I’m not taking care of my four little crazies, doing book work for hubby or styling it up in the salon, then I’m researching the daylights out of this acidic vs alkaline, heal my gut, “free my skin” diet. Sooo, I’ll start with a few before and afters and then share some teas and supplements everyone in “healing yourself” land is raving about. After reading of some supplements in Dr Pagano’s book and reading testimonies on inspire.com I decided to give it a go. First on the list is slippery elm bark tea. Ya. Not the tastiest. But extremely  beneficial to healing the gut. Slippery elm coats and protects and helps new formation of the mucous membrane that protect the intestinal walls. It also coats the digestive track. This tea is usually taken in the morning a half hour before or after breakfast.  Personally for me it’s not so much the taste that makes it undesirable but more the texture. If left sitting too long...

Two week comparison

This is really sad people but this is the only picture I took this weekend, I mean, who goes away with their husband for the weekend and doesn't take a photo?!?! And I only took this to send to a friend because this is where we got caught in a rain storm a few months earlier. I need help.  So I technically just finished week three but I'm going to rewind just a little. The first two weeks my diet pretty much consisted of ground turkey mixed with brown rice and lentils (Or just brown rice, lentils and avocado) chicken, raw and cooked veggies (I love roasted veggies), smoothies with vanilla protein powder, lots of apples and bananas and oatmeal for breakfast. Salt and pepper and cilantro are my best friends right now. Luckily I don't mind eating the same thing every day! It's kept life simple, but week three has me venturing out to make new things. My first week with no gluten, no dairy and no sugar was strange. Almost every time I ate a meal I felt "empty...
